The Flight Route Message Wall: A New Way to Connect on Any Airplane
You're somewhere over the Atlantic. 180 people around you. No one talking.
You've got a window seat on the VIE–NYC route, seven hours ahead of you, and the only thing between you and total isolation is a tiny screen replaying a movie you've already seen.
Sound familiar?
Solo travel is booming — bookings using "solo traveller" filters jumped 83% year-on-year in 2026. But here's the irony: the loneliest place a solo traveler can be isn't a hostel or an empty restaurant. It's a fully booked plane.
We built Wingman Cabin Chat to fix that. And today, we're launching something new: the Board.
---
What Is the Board?
The Board is an anonymous, route-based message board built into the Wingman app.
Here's how it works:
- Open the app on any flight
- Select your route — say, VIE → NYC or LHR → JFK
- Leave a message, a thought, a question, a joke — anything
- Anyone on that route can read it. Anonymously.
No account needed. No real name. No pressure.
Just strangers talking to strangers, the way people used to before earbuds became the universal signal for don't talk to me.
---
Why Route-Based?
Most apps to meet people while traveling are designed for before or after the flight — you match at the airport, you plan to meet in the city. But the most interesting moment is right now, 35,000 feet up, when you're actually next to each other.
The route filter changes everything. When you post on the VIE–NYC wall, you're not talking to the entire internet. You're talking to the 200 people who got on the same plane as you, going to the same place, probably feeling the same mix of bored and restless.
That's not a message board. That's a room.
---
Why Anonymous?
Because the best conversations on planes happen when no one's performing.
Think about it — you've probably had a stranger tell you something real on a long flight. Something they'd never say at a dinner party. There's something about being in a metal tube at 35,000 feet that lowers the guard.
The Board keeps that energy. You don't have to be brave. You don't have to be witty. You just have to be curious.
---
Be the First One on Your Route
Here's the thing about the Board: every route starts empty.
The VIE–NYC wall right now? Blank. The LHR–JFK one? Waiting.
Which means the next person to open the app on your flight could be reading your message. You set the tone. You start the conversation. Maybe it's a question. Maybe it's a bad pun about airplane food. Maybe it's just "first time flying alone — anyone else?"
You don't need to be funny. You don't need to be brave. You just need to go first.
Someone will answer. They always do.

The Bigger Problem We're Solving
67% of solo travelers say they use apps or social platforms to meet other travelers. But almost none of those apps work on the plane itself — because they all require internet.
Wingman is built differently. The app works without Wi-Fi, using your phone's Bluetooth and local network. Which means the Board works too — no in-flight Wi-Fi purchase required, no dead zones, no waiting until you land.
You're already next to them. Now you can actually talk.

How to Use It
Download Wingman Cabin Chat (free, iOS)
Open the app when you board
Tap Board
Select your flight route
Leave a message — or just read what others wrote
That's it.

A Note From the Founder
I built this app because silent flights feel wrong.
Not uncomfortable-wrong. Just... wasteful. You're spending 7, 10, 14 hours next to a human being you'll never see again. And the social contract says you should pretend they're not there.
The Board came from a simple question: what if you could say something, without the risk of saying it?
We're still small. Still building. But the flights don't have to be lonely.
